An injection-molded plastic model of the unusual German Blohm & Voss BV-40 aircraft in 1:72 scale from the Czech brand Brengun. It is a short-run kit of modest extent that the manufacturer has supplemented with photo-etched metal for the fine details and a clear canopy part. Given the nature of the tooling, the build is better suited to more experienced modelers.
The BV-40 was a unique attempt at a simple interceptor glider from the end of the Second World War. It had no engine of its own: a fighter was to tow it up to combat altitude, from where it would dive on formations of Allied bombers. The pilot lay prone in the heavily armored nose. The concept got no further than test flights and never reached combat service, which makes it an interesting curiosity of aviation development.
With short-run tooling, expect the parts to need cleaning up and dry fitting. Glue the plastic with modeling cement for plastic and the photo-etched parts with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Apply a primer before painting and spray the colors with an airbrush in thin coats. The small aircraft comes into its own with careful shading and cleanly applied German camouflage.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
