About product

Bristol Beaufort Mk.II/VIII/IX, decals 1:72, Print Scale

A sheet set of water-slide decals in 1:72 scale from Print Scale. The sheet is devoted to the twin-engine Bristol Beaufort torpedo bomber, specifically to its later production versions. It is not a model and not a kit: the decals serve to mark an already built and painted model and they make it possible to build an aircraft in a form other than the one the decal sheet in a kit offers.

The real subject

The Bristol Beaufort was a British twin-engine torpedo bomber and reconnaissance aircraft used from the beginning of the Second World War. In design terms it grew out of a light bomber from the same maker, but it had a larger fuselage with room for a torpedo and a bigger crew. Its main task was to attack shipping and to lay mines in coastal waters. The Mk.II version differed from the original in its powerplant: in place of the original British engines it received American radial engines, which improved reliability as well as the availability of spare parts. The Mk.VIII and Mk.IX designations then belong to production that came about outside Britain as manufacture was extended to further continents; these aircraft differed in equipment and were used in the Pacific area.

Use and tips

In 1:72 scale the motifs are small, so work with a sharp scalpel and fine tweezers. Overcoat the model with a gloss varnish, so that no white haze forms around a decal. Cut the motif out closely, dip it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and let it rest until the film starts to slide on the paper. Slide it onto the moistened surface, adjust the position with a soft brush and blot the excess water with a towel. A decal softener will help settle the motif over panel lines and transitions. Once dry, even the surface out with a matte varnish. On twin-engine aircraft watch the correct orientation and the symmetry of the national insignia on both wings, because any asymmetry is clearly visible in a small scale.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of British aircraft in 1:72 scale
  • Anyone interested in naval aviation and attacks on shipping
  • Modelers who want the later versions instead of the basic one usually on offer
  • Collectors who keep decal sheets in stock

The package contains decals only. The model, the paints and the varnish are not included.

FAQ

It is not. It is only a sheet of decals for marking a model that you build separately.

The Mk.II version received American radial engines in place of the original British ones, which improved reliability and the availability of spare parts.

They are later production that came about outside Britain as manufacture was extended. The aircraft differed in equipment and were used above all in the Pacific area.

Use a sharp scalpel, fine tweezers and a soft brush to adjust the position. A decal softener will help settle the motif over engraved lines.
