A resin detail set for a plastic model of the CH-46D tandem-rotor helicopter in 1:72 scale. It concentrates on the rear engine section, that is, on an area that is prominently visible on this machine and is usually simplified into a smooth cover in base kits. The set is an accessory, not a standalone model, and it is supplied unpainted.
The CH-46 Sea Knight is one of the best known tandem-rotor helicopters: two counter-rotating main rotors, no tail rotor, and a cargo hold reached through a folding rear ramp. The tail is the shape-wise complicated part of a tandem machine, because the fuselage ends there in the rear rotor pylon and the power train comes together in it. The CH-46D version was an upgraded variant with more powerful engines. The machine served mainly with the US Navy and the Marine Corps, carrying squads and cargo and resupplying ships at sea.
The procedure is the same as with other resin accessories, but with two extra notes. First: the rear fuselage is rounded, so after the cutout in the plastic the transition between the part and the kit has to be puttied and sanded into a smooth shape, otherwise the seam will show through the paint. Second: if you leave the section open, paint and shade its inside before you seat it on the model. Wash the castings to remove the mold release agent before painting, cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw and wet-sand with respiratory protection. It is bonded with super glue, and the joints are puttied and sanded before painting.
This is an accessory, not a helicopter kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
