An injection-molded plastic kit of the postwar Soviet cruise missile in 1:72 scale. In the box you will find a sprue with light gray plastic parts, decals and instructions. It is a small model with a low part count that can be built over one or two evenings and that rounds out a line-up of Soviet equipment or a themed series of unmanned weapons nicely in a display case. Brengun is a Czech maker focused on the less usual subjects that the large makers do not cover.
The 16Kh missile, designated by the code name Priboy, came about in the design bureau led by Vladimir Chelomey and built on German experience with the Fi 103 flying bomb. From 1945 the Soviet Union studied and developed several designs derived from that concept. In 1947 the version was ordered as a missile launched from the air from a heavy bomber and also as a target drone. Propulsion came from pulsejet engines mounted on the fuselage, guidance was autonomous and the accuracy matched the possibilities of the day. The type never reached wide operational service and stayed mainly in the test and training program.
The build is short, and the key is clean work on the mold parting lines and the exact seating of the wings and engine nacelles. Glue the plastic with thin plastic cement and it is better to fill and sand small seams, because every irregularity shows on a smooth fuselage. Apply primer before painting. Smooth surfaces spray well with an airbrush, but a brush handles a small model without trouble too. If you want to bring the surface to life, use a fine wash into the engraved lines and light picking out of the edges, but keep the weathering restrained so that the model does not look artificial. The model has no landing gear, so consider a separate stand or a base for display.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
