An underslung refueling pod D-704 in 1:72 scale in the early form, which the name of the item places in the nineteen sixties and seventies.
Responsibility details are not available.
The accessory shows an underslung device for refueling in flight, which among modelers is called a buddy pod. Its task is to turn an ordinary combat aircraft into a temporary flying fueling station for another machine of the same unit. This particular package corresponds, according to the name, to the older form of the device.
The pod carries a reel with a hose ending in a drogue basket. Once the hose is let out into the airstream, the receiving aircraft comes closer and inserts its probe into the basket; only after the connection does the transfer begin. A solution by means of a pod has, against a specialized tanker aircraft, the advantage that it can be hung on an ordinary machine as needed, so a unit does not have to wait for a large aircraft. The disadvantage is a smaller supply of fuel and an occupied pylon.
A pod is a slender body on which you see every irregularity at once, so sand and polish the surfaces carefully before painting. Deal with the mounting only after finishing the underside of the aircraft, otherwise you will rest fresh paint against the pylon. For precise seating a pin of wire glued into a socket helps. In color this kind of pod tends to be lighter than the surrounding camouflage, so it stands out when you set it apart by shade and add a fine wash around the caps.
The goods contain only the pod; the carrier you choose yourselves according to your own intention.
