1:72 Dassault Mirage III and Mirage 5 pitot tube is a turned metal part that replaces the fragile plastic probe on the nose of a model in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a single but very visible part. A turned metal pitot tube for models of the Dassault Mirage III and Mirage 5 in 1:72 scale, replacing the plastic original from the kit. It is not a model of an aircraft but an accessory to one, and the base kit has to be obtained separately.
The probe on the tip of the nose is long and slender on this type and on a model it reliably shows where injection-molded plastic reaches its limits. To be released from the mold the part has to be thicker than the scale allows, and because it tends to be long it often bows into a curve once it is cut from the frame. Turned brass holds its diameter and its axis along the whole length, the taper is smooth and the point is sharp. The practical gain is as great as the visual one: a metal probe bends when the model is carried, but it does not snap, which is not true of plastic.
Cut the plastic probe off at its root and level the surface. Drill the hole slowly and in line with the fuselage, because a pitot tube set on crooked shows on a model at first glance. Seat the metal with a gel grade cyanoacrylate that does not run. Degrease it with alcohol before painting and apply a primer for metal, and only then the covering shade. It is best to glue the probe on as the very last step of the build, after the decals and the clear coat. When dusting the finished model, never press a cloth against it; use a soft brush.
An accessory to a plastic kit, not a standalone model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
