The package holds two turned metal barrels of the Browning M2 heavy machine gun in the Heavy Barrel version, that is the ground and vehicle version with a thick-walled barrel, in 1:72 scale. The set replaces the plastic part of the basic model and deals with its two most common weaknesses: a closed muzzle and insufficient stiffness. The metal part stays straight even once fitted and stands up to being touched during further assembly or while carrying the finished model.
The 12.7 mm Browning M2 is one of the most widespread heavy machine guns of the 20th century. The Heavy Barrel version differs from the aircraft form in its thicker barrel without water cooling, which takes longer bursts better, and it is used on the roof mounts of tanks and armored vehicles, on off-road cars and on anti-aircraft mounts. In 1:72 scale the shape of the barrel and its slenderness are among the details that reveal the quality of a build at first glance.
Remove the original plastic barrel with a cut at the receiver and level the surface. Drill the hole for the pin step by step, from a smaller diameter to a larger one, so that the plastic part does not split. Bond the metal with super glue, ideally with a minimum amount and with an accelerator. Degrease the surface with alcohol before painting, otherwise the paint will not hold; a dark metal base followed by drybrushing of the edges works well. If you dust the model with pigments, leave the barrel darker than its surroundings so that it stays visually set apart.
This is an accessory for modelers, not a stand-alone kit. The basic model, the glue and the paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
