A masking set from MH models for models of the British de Havilland DH.95 Flamingo airliner in 1:72 scale. The masks are stuck onto the clear part, which is sprayed over with the color of the frames, and the masks are taken off. On a type with extensive glazing of both the flight deck and the passenger cabin that does away with the slow business of outlining the frames with a brush. It is an accessory to a model, not a kit.
The de Havilland DH.95 Flamingo was a British twin-engine all-metal high-wing monoplane of the late 1930s, designed as a short-haul airliner. It differed from the firm's earlier wooden designs precisely in its all-metal structure and its retractable landing gear. Only a small number of machines were built; besides civil operation, some were used for transport and liaison duties, among other things for carrying heads of state. Characteristic features are the slender fuselage with its row of windows and the high-set wing with engine nacelles.
Lift a piece out of the sheet with the tip of a scalpel, offer it up to the glazing and press it into the engraved edges of the frame all round. On an aircraft with many small windows it pays to work systematically from one end of the fuselage to the other and to check as you go that the piece sits exactly between the engraved lines. Cover the unglazed areas with masking tape and fill the inside of the cabin with a damp tissue. Spray the shade of the interior of the frames first and the external finish once that is dry, both in thin coats. Take the masks off with tweezers soon after they have dried; on long glazing work from the end and do not pull a piece straight up.
This is not a model of the aircraft and not a kit. Paints, varnish and the base model are not included in the package.
