A plastic kit of the American F-111F with a variable-geometry wing in 1:72 scale, in the guise of Operation Desert Storm. The box refers to the 1991 deployment in the Persian Gulf. The manufacturer is not stated here, so neither the contents of the package nor the number of marking options is described - the instruction sheet in the kit applies.
The F-111 was a two-seat ground-attack aircraft with the crew sitting side by side, with a swing wing and a terrain-following radar for low-level penetration in any weather. The F-111F version received more powerful engines and was the only one to carry the Pave Tack targeting pod in the forward weapons bay, which let it designate targets for laser-guided bombs by itself. During Operation Desert Storm the 48th Tactical Fighter Wing, moved over from Lakenheath, operated from Taif in Saudi Arabia, and the F-111Fs delivered a large share of all laser-guided drops. They were the only type to use the penetrating GBU-28, which struck deep command bunkers; the destruction of single tanks out in the desert is well known too.
Decide in advance whether the wing will be spread or swept - the fit of the root gloves and of the flaps changes with it, and dry-fitting helps. Finish the gear bays and the weapons bay before you close the fuselage up. A desert deployment means faded paint, dust in the panel lines and smoke trails behind the engines.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
