A resin accessory from the Quickboost brand by Aires Hobby Models. It replaces the frame of the hinged canopy on an F-14 Tomcat model in 1:72 scale. In this small scale the part tends to be thick-walled and coarse in kits; a separate casting allows a thinner profile and a cleaner transition to the fuselage, which shows above all on a model with an open cockpit. The set is an accessory, and you will not build a finished model from it.
The Grumman F-14 Tomcat was a two-seat carrier-based fighter with a variable-sweep wing, developed for the US Navy. The crew consisted of the pilot and the weapon systems officer seated behind him under one large canopy. It is precisely the glazing with no cross frame above the crew area that is one of the characteristic features of the type, which makes it a visible part of the silhouette on a model.
Cut the frame off the casting block with a saw and polish the surface flat on glass with abrasive paper, so that it mates with the glazing. Wash the casting in lukewarm soapy water before painting and apply primer — paint holds poorly on untreated resin. The frame is glued with super glue, but on clear parts it is better to use canopy glue, which does not fog. Paint the inner face of the frame in the cockpit shade and only then the outer face in the airframe color. If you are building the cockpit open, it pays to add the strut and the small runs of wiring, because an open canopy draws the eye.
This is an accessory, not an airplane kit. Paints, glue and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
