A set of photo-etched parts in 1:72 scale for a model of the two-seat carrier-based F/A-18F. Thin metal replaces the places where a plastic part is too thick.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set contains parts etched from thin metal sheet. Etching is done chemically, and so a part can have a thickness that injection-molded plastic will never come close to. It pays off everywhere the real subject should have a thin wall, a grille, a narrow strap or a loop. The model does not have to be rebuilt for it; the individual parts are simply replaced or added. In 1:72 scale this is doubly true, because this is exactly where the difference between a plastic part and a metal one shows the most.
The F/A-18F is the two-seat configuration of the carrier-based combat aircraft of the Super Hornet family. Compared with the single-seat version it has a lengthened canopy with two seats in tandem, so it holds twice as many instruments, frames and controls, and this is where most of the work on the model tends to be. The machine is twin-engine, with a trapezoidal wing and a pair of canted vertical tails.
The parts are held on the fret by thin tabs. Cut through them with a sharp blade on a hard surface and level off the rest of the tab with a fine file. Make the bends along the marked groove over a straight edge or in a photo-etch bender, always in one movement; bending it repeatedly will crack the metal. It is bonded with a tiny amount of super glue, as polystyrene cement will not join metal. Before painting, wash the metal, degrease it and lay down a primer coat.
The kit, the paints, the glue and the tools are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
