1:72 F-35A Lightning II RAM panels early is a masking set from the Czech maker Eduard for spraying the panels of radar absorbent material in their early form.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set is neither a kit nor a decal but masking stencils for spraying the so-called RAM panels. These are areas covered with radar absorbent material, which on the real aircraft have a different shade and a different degree of sheen from the surrounding finish. It is they that give the F-35 its characteristic uneven, slightly mottled look. Spraying them through a mask is a solution that looks more credible than an attempt to paint them freehand and leaves no carrier film on the surface.
The Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II is a single-seat single-engine fifth-generation combat aircraft for conventional takeoff and landing. Its reduced radar signature comes not only from the shape of the airframe but also from the surface treatment, and the placing and shape of the RAM areas differ between individual production batches. This set matches the early form of those areas, which is a distinguishing detail during the build. Before you start spraying, please compare the form of the panels with photographs of the particular machine you are building.
The model first has to have its base finish done and thoroughly dry, ideally smoothed. Lift the masks with tweezers and press them down carefully, above all around the edges and the transitions. The shade of the panels is sprayed very gently and in thin coats, because the difference against the base color should be noticeable but not contrasting. Take the mask off shortly after it has dried. An evening matte coat at the end softens the differences and settles the whole surface.
