The set itself is not an aircraft kit — it is an accessory that replaces or supplements the parts of the base plastic model. Resin castings hold finer engraving and sharper edges than an injection mold allows, so the panel lines and the shape of the trailing edge stand out on the finished model.
The Vought F-8 Crusader was an American supersonic carrier fighter with a single turbojet, brought into service in the second half of the 1950s. Its most striking design feature was the variable-incidence wing: the whole wing center section lifted for takeoff and landing, so the fuselage stayed level and the pilot had a better view of the deck of the carrier. The F-8J version was a modernization of late US Navy machines, the FN abbreviation belonged to aircraft of French naval aviation and the letter P to export examples. A raised wing with the flaps extended is one of the most rewarding details that can be shown on a Crusader model.
Wash the parts in warm soapy water first so that the mold release residue is removed — paint does not hold on a greasy surface. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine-toothed saw or a snap-off knife, never snap them. Sand wet and with respiratory protection, do not inhale resin dust. It is glued with super glue (cyanoacrylate); ordinary plastic cement will not bond resin. Before painting, apply a thin base coat, which unifies the surface of the resin and the plastic and reveals any scratches.
This is an accessory, not a complete model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
