A set of resin exhaust stubs for the American Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat carrier fighter in 1:72 scale from Quickboost. It is not an airplane model but an exactly cast detail part that will replace the coarser exhausts from the base kit with a more accurate shape with drilled-out openings.
The F4F-4 was the most widespread version of the Wildcat, the carrier fighter of the US Navy used at the beginning of the war in the Pacific. The air-cooled Pratt and Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp radial engine led its gases away through ejector exhausts that came out along the sides of the fuselage behind the engine cowling. The replacement resin stubs have crisper detail and open mouths, so the side of the fuselage behind the engine looks more realistic than the solid part from an injection mold.
Resin parts need more careful preparation: wash them in lukewarm soapy water to remove mold release residue, separate them from the casting block carefully and bond them with super glue (cyanoacrylate); protect your airways while sanding. Paint the exhausts with a combination of rust, dark metal and burnt steel shades and add weathered pigment and soot streaks running backward.
The part is supplied as a resin accessory, unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
