About product

Fieseler Fi 156 masking set in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Artillery models

This is a set of painting masks, not a kit and not decals. The masks are cut in advance to the shape of the individual glazed areas of the cockpit and are stuck to the clear part before painting. Once the paint is on and the masks come off, the cockpit frames are left sharply bounded, with no ridges and with no paint creeping under the tape.

The real subject

The Fieseler Fi 156 was a single-engine high-wing monoplane with fixed landing gear and a fabric-covered structure, used for liaison, courier, observation and ambulance duties. It became famous for its remarkably short takeoff and landing run, made possible by extensive high-lift devices along the whole span of the wing. For modelers its most characteristic feature is the heavily glazed cockpit with a large number of narrow frames, which swings out to the sides. That kind of glazing is exactly what is hard to cut by hand out of masking tape, so ready-made masks save the most work here.

How to use the masks

Wash the clear part first and let it dry completely, because grease from your fingers holds the masks unreliably. Lift the individual parts off the sheet with pointed tweezers or a wooden stick and lay them on the glazing dry, to check that the shape matches your kit. Once they are stuck down, press the edges with a toothpick so that nothing creeps underneath. Spray thinly and in several coats, because a heavy coat of paint leaves a ridge once the mask comes off. The order that works best runs from the interior color of the frames through the undercoat to the top camouflage. Lift the mask off while the varnish is freshly dry, because after longer the edge of the paint tears.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers who build the Fieseler Fi 156 in 1:72 scale
  • Those who do not want to cut dozens of narrow frames out of masking tape by hand
  • Builders bothered by uneven edges and paint creep on the cockpit
  • Beginners who are learning to spray glazed areas with an airbrush

The masks are an accessory, not a kit. The model, the paints and the glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. These are only masking parts for a model you build from another kit.

The masks are cut to the shape of the cockpit glazing of the Fieseler Fi 156 in 1:72 scale. Lay them on dry before sticking them down and check that the shape matches the glazing of your model.

Shortly after the last coat has dried. If it comes off much later and over a thick layer of varnish, the edge of the paint may tear.

Count mainly on masking the glazed areas.
