This item is not a model of an aircraft but a tiny detail set for a plastic kit of the Fw 190D-9 in 1:72 scale. The exhaust stacks belong among the parts on which the simplification of an injection mold tells most: they have a closed, blunt opening and often a mold parting line as well. The Quickboost resin casting replaces them with parts with the opening rendered and a cleaner shape. In a small scale, where an exhaust is only a few millimeters long, it is a difference that is immediately visible in the view from the side.
The Focke-Wulf Fw 190D-9 was a development branch of the well known Fw 190 fighter in which the original air-cooled radial engine was replaced by a liquid-cooled inverted V12 Junkers Jumo 213A. The change of powerplant lengthened the nose and the tail of the aircraft and gave it the characteristic slender silhouette after which the type got the nickname Dora. That is exactly why the exhausts of the D-9 version differ in shape and in arrangement from the radial-engine versions of the A and F series, and the set is not interchangeable with them.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent, so that paint holds on them. Cut the casting blocks off with a sharp scalpel or a fine saw; in 1:72 scale the parts are very tiny, so work over a tray and with tweezers. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, that is super glue, applied in a minute drop. Cut the original plastic exhausts off the model and level the seating. Start the painting with a dark metal shade, add rusty and sooty tones and finally add a light deposit of pigment in the direction of the airflow; fit them only after the model has been sprayed.
The set is supplied unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
