A masking set from MH models intended for models of the fourth production series Fokker D.XXI fighter in 1:72 scale. It serves for spraying the markings in paint: the masks are stuck onto the finished coat, the insignia is sprayed over and the masks are taken off. The markings then lie in the same layer as the camouflage and no edge is left behind on the surface of the model. The package contains masking pieces; the model and paints are not part of it.
The Fokker D.XXI was a Dutch single-seat fighter of the 1930s - a high-wing monoplane with a fixed landing gear and a fuselage of mixed construction, designed with an emphasis on simple production and maintenance. Besides the Netherlands, other countries built it under license, and it served longest in Finland, where the later production series also appeared. The fourth series differed from the earlier machines above all in its engine and in the shape of the nose that went with it. By its design it was a type suited more to the conditions of field airfields than to combat with the most modern fighters of its day.
Marking masks are stuck onto a finished, dried and ideally slightly glossy surface. Lift the piece out of the sheet with the tip of a scalpel, place it according to the drawing and press the edges down all round; cover the surroundings with masking tape. Apply the paint in several very thin coats perpendicular to the surface, never at an angle under the edge of the mask. With multi-color insignia you work in layers and each further mask has to be aligned exactly on the previous one - it pays to let every layer dry thoroughly. Remove the mask with tweezers soon after the paint has dried; on a fully cured finish, score the outline with the tip of a knife first, so that the edge is not torn away.
This is not a model of the aircraft and not a kit. Paints, varnish and the base model are not included in the package.
