The precise placement of small markings is made easier by 1:72 Fw 190 A-7 masks for crosses, a set of templates for a 1:72 model of the late Anton.

In small scales the precise placement of a marking decides more than anything else. The set offers templates cut for the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 A-7, with which the cross is applied in paint and stays just as matte as the camouflage around it. A small model will take only a thin coat, though, so that the engraved detail is not lost.
The A-7 version was built at the turn of 1943 and 1944 in a limited number only. The most conspicuous change was the replacement of the light fuselage machine guns by 13 mm weapons, on account of which the cowling ahead of the pilot's compartment had to receive a pair of pronounced bulges. It is from this form that the step to the far more numerous A-8 line leads, so the A-7 is often described as a transitional type between the two blocks. Collectors notice it precisely because of the markings of both generations which meet on it, and because of the modification of the cowling, which is clearly visible on a model.
Before you lay a template on permanently, try the position dry and compare it with the diagram. Transfer the small pieces with tweezers with smooth jaws and do not touch the adhesive side with your fingers. A little patience is worth more here than all the other tricks put together. Offcuts of the film will also serve to cover the cockpit or small openings which would otherwise become clogged with paint.
