This light tank is of Czechoslovak origin: it came about in prewar production as a modern machine with a riveted hull, a reliable chassis with large road wheels and a 37 mm rapid-fire gun. After the occupation of the Czech lands the Wehrmacht took it over and put it into its armored divisions, where it made up a significant part of the tank fleet in the first years of the war. Its combat value quickly became obsolete, but the chassis proved so successful that a whole range of tank destroyers and self-propelled guns were built on it until the end of the war.
