The German tropical pith helmet in 1:72 scale is a small accessory for figures and dioramas, not a kit. It supplies the head covering for figures set in the North African and Mediterranean campaigns.
Responsibility details are not available.
A stand-alone modeling accessory for builders of figures and dioramas in 1:72 scale. It serves either to fit a figure in place of its original head covering or as a piece of equipment set aside in a scene. Check the number of pieces in the package and the exact material of the casting on the box.
The tropical pith helmet was part of the equipment of German units deployed in North Africa and the Mediterranean between 1941 and 1943. It had a light body of cork or felt covered with cloth, a brim right around and a leather chin strap, and it protected mainly against the sun. In front-line service it was gradually pushed aside by the field cap and the steel helmet, so in a scene it tends to be more credible as a piece of equipment set aside than as the head covering of a whole unit.
In 1:72 scale this is a genuinely tiny part, so allow for tweezers, a sharp scalpel and good lighting. Separate it over a light surface and work over a tissue so that the casting does not disappear. Degrease the surface before painting and lay on a very thin base, otherwise the detail is drowned. Paint it in a muted sand shade, add shadow in the hollows with a thin wash and only suggest the edges with a lighter shade on an almost dry brush. It is bonded with super glue, which should be applied with a toothpick or a piece of wire so that the drop does not run over the whole part.
