Toward the end of the Second World War the Tempest Mk.V was among the fastest British fighters at low altitude. It was powered by the Napier Sabre engine with its cylinders arranged in an H, and the armament consisted of four 20 mm cannon in the wing. It was precisely its speed near the ground that destined the Tempests for chasing V-1 missiles and for attacks on ground targets over northwestern Europe. Its recognition features are the thin wing and the tall vertical tail.
An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale from Kovozavody Prostejov in the JOYPACK series packaging. The plastic parts are on sprues, a clear part for the canopy is added and so is a decal sheet. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, and printed instructions guide the build and also show where the decals go.
Fit out and paint the cockpit before you join the fuselage halves; later you will not reach it. Mask the canopy before spraying the external colors and take care to get a sharp boundary between the upper camouflage and the light undersurface. Leave the propeller separate until the end of the work, as it is easier to mask and paint on its own. If you are building a machine from the summer of 1944, the wide invasion stripes belong on the wing and the fuselage, and they come out cleaner sprayed over masks than assembled from decals.
The set will please collectors of British fighters and modelers who put together late-war hardware in 1:72 scale. For the build, prepare sprue cutters, a file, abrasive paper and cement for plastic. Paints, glue and accessory sets are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
