This detail set offers exhaust nozzles in two variants — the open (spread) and the closed (constricted) position — in 1:72 scale, as a replacement for the parts from the box. It is a resin, 3D printed aftermarket set from the maker Reskit for experienced modelers. The modeler can therefore choose the state of the engines to match the chosen scene, and 3D printing faithfully captures the petals as well as the inner structure.
The F-14A Tomcat is a two-seat carrier-borne fighter with a variable-geometry wing, powered by a pair of jet engines. The diameter of the exhaust nozzles changes according to the power setting: spread at high thrust with the afterburner lit, constricted on a shut-down machine. Having both positions available gives freedom in portraying a scene.
Wash the print resin residue off the parts, cut off the print supports and clean them up. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue; do the sanding with respiratory protection. Spray the nozzles in metallic shades, create the heat staining with glazes, and bring the inside out with a light shadow and pigments.
This is a detail accessory, not a model in its own right. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
