1:72 Hawker Hurricane wheels set late type 1

Hawker Hurricane wheel set, late type 1, 1:72 (Reskit)

This item is not a kit but a resin detail accessory for a model. The set replaces the landing gear wheels in a plastic kit of the British Hawker Hurricane fighter in 1:72 scale and matches the late version designated as type 1. Alongside it the manufacturer also offers a set for the early type and a set for late type 2, so it is a good idea to choose according to the particular machine you are building. Resin castings hold a legible tire tread pattern and hub detail.

The real subject

The Hawker Hurricane was a British single-seat fighter of mixed construction, with a fuselage of steel tubes and a wing that in the later versions carried an all-metal skin. The landing gear retracted from the wing inward toward the fuselage and had a wide track, thanks to which the type took operating from grass airfields well. Several designs of wheel succeeded one another during the aircraft's production and service, which is exactly why accessories are offered divided up by type.

Building and painting tips

Wash the resin parts in lukewarm water with detergent, so that no mold release agent is left on them. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc and level the surface with a file; do the sanding wet and with respiratory protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue. A tire looks more convincing in a dark gray shade than in pure black; it is a good idea to set the hub apart by masking. A final light dusting of pigment evens the wheels out with the rest of the landing gear.

Who the set is for

• builders of British aircraft in 1:72 scale
• modelers who want to tell the individual wheel designs apart precisely
• more experienced builders used to working with resin
• display case models with the landing gear permanently extended

This is not an aircraft model but an accessory for one. The parts are supplied unpainted; the base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
