About product

MH models 1:72 Hawker Tempest Mk.V - glazing masks

A set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks in 1:72 scale for masking the glazing of a model of the Hawker Tempest Mk.V fighter aircraft. It is not a kit but an accessory. In a small scale, cutting masking tape by hand for the narrow frames of a canopy is especially thankless, because the strip tends to be unevenly wide and the edge is hard to hit. A pre-cut mask does away with that problem and it also spares the clear part, which is easily scratched by repeated cutting with a scalpel. The set is meant for Kovozavody Prostejov kits.

The real subject

The Hawker Tempest Mk.V was the most widespread version of the British Tempest fighter aircraft, driven by a liquid-cooled inline engine with a characteristic radiator in the leading edge of the wing. The aircraft had a thin laminar-flow wing and was among the fastest British piston fighters at ground level. It was used at the end of the Second World War, among other things against unmanned missiles and in attacks on ground targets. The cockpit was covered by a sliding teardrop canopy with a good all-round view.

Usage tips

Wash the clear part in lukewarm water with detergent, not with alcohol. Carry the mask with tweezers, press it down and work the edges in with a toothpick. Spray the interior shade of the frames first, then the primer and the camouflage, always in thin coats at right angles to the edge of the mask. Take the mask off once the paint has set. If you are building with the canopy slid back, count on the inner side of the frames staying visible, and it is best to finish it by hand.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of British piston fighters in 1:72 scale
  • Modelers who do not want to cut tape for narrow canopy frames
  • Those who want sharp and even frames in a small scale too
  • Beginners who find masking glazing difficult

The masks are an accessory to a plastic kit, which is not included in the package. Paints and glue are not supplied. The set is cut for the Kovozavody Prostejov kit in this scale - before buying, make sure it matches your kit.

FAQ

It is not. It is a set of masks for the glazing, that is an accessory. The kit has to be obtained separately.

The Mk.V had a liquid-cooled inline engine with the radiator in the leading edge of the wing, whereas the Mk.II had an air-cooled radial engine and a short solid nose.

The masks are cut for the Kovozavody Prostejov kit of the given type and scale. Before buying, please make sure they match the one you are building.

Best of all shortly after the paint has set, pulling at a sharp angle along the edge. On a fully cured finish there is a risk of tearing the edge away.
