A scenic accessory for builders of dioramas in 1:72 scale. It is not a model of a vehicle, of an aircraft or a figure, but a ready section of an environment: a house passageway with walls and paving, on which a model is placed and which gives it context. The base is at the same time a practical display-case stand that holds the composition together.
What to do with it in a scene
A house passageway is a rewarding motif, because it offers an enclosed space with depth and a natural frame. A vehicle or a figure placed in the passageway gains a story at once, without the scene needing a large area. Light and shade inside the passageway moreover help to set the main model apart from the background.
If you paint the base, it pays to work from a dark ground toward light upper tones, so that depth is kept in the joints of the masonry and the paving. A dry brush will bring out the edges of the plaster, and fine dust in the lower part of the walls will visually set the scene on the ground. Try the model dry before its final seating, so that it fits and the composition has a direction of view.
