A telescopic boom is an arm made up of several sections that slide out one from another. This is the form with the designation IM-55 intended for modern Russian trucks. On a model it is the item that settles at once what the vehicle is for: folded, the arm lies along the body and the truck comes across as an ordinary one, while an extended and raised arm changes the whole outline and gives the scene movement. The set is in 1:72 scale and it is an accessory to a kit, not a model on its own.
Which particular kit the set fits, how many parts it holds and whether it allows the arm to be built extended are settled by the manufacturer's instructions enclosed. So offer the parts up dry before gluing and compare them with the body and the frame of the vehicle they are to go on.
Follow the instructions for the procedure. Cut the excess material and the marks left by manufacture off with a sharp blade a little way from the part and carefully sand the remainder, so that the edges of the sections stay as they are. A long slender part bows easily, so support it along its whole length and do not lay it over an edge. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. Paint the arm separately, away from the vehicle, because once it is assembled it is hard to spray between the extended sections. On the real subject the boom tends to be scuffed and greasy, so drawn-out edges and dark traces at the joints and where it rests on the frame come across as convincing.
