Sheets of masks for the Junkers Ju 52 transport trimotor in 1:72 scale. They contain a mask for the cockpit glazing and three sets of national insignia, shaped to the parts of the Italeri kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Junkers Ju 52 came about at the turn of the twenties and thirties as a transport machine and earned the nickname Auntie for the reliability with which it carried troops, wounded men and supplies on every front. Characteristic are its corrugated duralumin skin, taken over from the Junkers school of design, and its three radial engines. It flew with the Luftwaffe, in the Spanish Civil War and long after 1945 in civil colors.
The set offers one mask for the glazing, cut for the outer side, and three whole sets of national insignia. That is the most of the entire series in this scale, which makes sense on a machine that served under so many different markings.
The corrugated skin is exactly the place where masking in 1:72 differs from a larger model. The pitch of the corrugations here is about 0.7 mm, so the film bridges over them and the paint bleeds into the grooves unless the mask is pressed into every hollow with a wooden stick or a toothpick. In a larger scale the film has somewhere to settle by itself.
The second thing this size changes is the order of the work. The cockpit of the trimotor is made up of several flat panes with a prominent frame, so it pays to spray the interior shade over the whole mask first and only then the top camouflage. The frame then does not show plastic from inside.
A model of the trimotor is not included; the set serves for painting only.
