A set of precisely die-cut self-adhesive masks in kabuki paper from the Czech firm Eduard makes it easier to paint the cockpit glazing frames on a model of the Junkers Ju 88C-6 heavy fighter in 1:72 scale. The characteristic segmented cockpit glazing has a great many small frames, which the ready-made masks simplify considerably.
Kabuki paper holds well, follows curved surfaces and leaves no adhesive when peeled off. Sets of this kind usually cover the cockpit glazing frames; with a good many sets masks for the wheel rims are included as well. The remaining areas are filled in with tape or masking fluid.
Clean and degrease the glazing. Lift the masks off with tweezers and seat them exactly in the individual frames. Apply the paint in thin coats with an airbrush so that it does not creep under the edge. Peel the mask off while the coat is still fresh.
