Junkers Ju 87G-2 Stuka Kanonenvogel 1:72 - plastic kit from Academy

An injection-molded plastic kit of the anti-tank version Junkers Ju 87G-2, nicknamed the Kanonenvogel (the cannon bird), in 1:72 scale from Academy. The model has engraved surface detail, a clear cockpit canopy and the characteristic pair of underwing large-caliber cannons. It is a rewarding kit of medium difficulty. The real subject

The Ju 87G was the anti-tank version of the Stuka dive bomber. The later G-2 configuration differs from the G-1 in its extended wing tips, which compensated for the higher wing loading. Under the wings it carried a pair of 37 mm cannons in pods, effective against Soviet armored vehicles. The best-known pilot of this version was Hans-Ulrich Rudel, whose machine is among the most frequently modeled. The G version of the Stuka was used above all on the Eastern Front in the last years of the war.

Building and painting tips

Clean up the parts and paint the cockpit before closing the fuselage. Apply primer to the plastic. A dark green upper camouflage with a light underside is suitable, on late machines supplemented by a winter overspray. The underwing cannons and the landing gear are small and fragile - glue them carefully and fit them only after the basic painting. Pick out the engraved detail with a dark wash and apply the decals onto gloss varnish. Muddy landing gear and exhaust stains will give the model the authentic atmosphere of the Eastern Front.
