Dead Design 1:72 Ki-46 Dinah national insignia masks is a masking set for spraying the Japanese insignia on a model of the fast reconnaissance aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Dead Design set makes it possible to spray the Japanese national insignia through a template instead of applying decals. It is used on a finished coat and is intended for a model of the twin-engine Ki-46 reconnaissance aircraft.
The Ki-46 was among the most cleanly shaped machines of its day, because it was built for speed and range. Modelers often underline that with a smooth, finely polished surface or with natural metal on the lower surfaces. It is precisely on such a surface that the carrier film of a decal is most visible: it reflects light differently from its surroundings and frames the insignia with a matte or, on the contrary, glossier rectangle. A sprayed insignia does not have that effect, because there is no extra layer under it or around it.
On a smooth and glossy base a mask holds very well, but the paint is also easily torn away if its adhesion underneath is weak. It pays, therefore, to let the base coat cure thoroughly and to press the mask once onto a clean cloth before applying it, so that part of its tackiness goes. Spray in thin coats and lift the mask off slowly, pulling across the edge. With natural metal, avoid alcohol for cleaning adhesive residue, as it can attack a metallic finish.
