An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:48 scale from the British manufacturer Airfix. The real subject is the Canadair Sabre in the version that the Royal Air Force adopted under the designation Sabre F.4 — the Canadian license variant of the American single-engine fighter with a swept wing. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
Canadair built the Sabre in Canada under license for the American type. The version corresponding to the British designation Sabre F.4 still kept the American J47 jet engine with an axial compressor; only the later Canadian series received the home-built Orenda engine. The swept wing moved the usable speed markedly beyond the possibilities of the straight-wing types of the previous generation, and in the first half of the 1950s the Sabre became one of the most widespread machines of its kind. The Royal Air Force operated it as an interim solution until home-built types took its role over. Its characteristic features are the circular nose air intake, the markedly swept wing and the low-set canopy.
Glue the plastic parts with liquid cement for polystyrene, which is drawn into the joint by capillary action; the joint is stronger and the plastic is not pushed out. Finish and paint the cockpit and the landing gear bays before you close the fuselage. Mask the clear parts and never glue them with ordinary cement for plastic, but with super glue for canopies or with a PVA-based glue. Apply a primer before painting; with metal surfaces a smoothly sanded base and a gloss varnish under the decals pay off. Apply the metallic shades at the end, as they are harder to mask and to spray over.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
