A set of self-adhesive masking templates for a model of the Japanese Nakajima Ki-84 Hayate fighter in 1:72 scale. The templates are cut to the shape of the individual panes of the glazing and to the wheels, so the laborious cutting of tape around the frames falls away. Photo-etched accessories for the same type carry the same name - here you are buying masks, not metal parts.
The Ki-84 Hayate was a Japanese single-engine fighter of the late phase of the Second World War. It was powered by a radial engine, the structure was all metal with a cantilever low wing and retractable landing gear. In its day it was among the better performing Japanese fighters, but series production suffered from a shortage of quality materials. In 1:72 scale the model is small, and a cleanly unmasked cockpit frame decides the overall impression on it more than anything else.
Wash the glazing before masking and let it dry, so that no grease stays on it. Lift the mask off the carrier film with tweezers and offer it up dry; you can settle it with a blunt stick or a toothpick, with which you also press it against the edge of the frame. Spray the paint in thin coats - a heavy coat creeps under the edge and makes a step. Choose the interior shade for the first coat, so that the frame is not white from the inside. Take the mask off shortly after it has dried, not after several days, otherwise it will pull the paint away too. Stick the circular wheel masks onto the tire and spray the hub, or the other way round.
This is an accessory for a model, not a standalone kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
