Landing gear bay masks for the Kyushu J7W1 Shinden in 1:72 scale from Dead Design. They cover the bay openings of an unusual canard-layout aircraft, so that they stay in their own shade.

A die-cut masking set from Dead Design for the landing gear bays of the Japanese J7W1 Shinden interceptor in 1:72 scale. It is an aid to painting: the bays are painted separately, the set covers them and the airframe is then sprayed with no risk of paint running inside.
The Shinden is an aircraft of canard layout: it carries a horizontal surface at the front and the main wing at the back, with the engine and its pusher propeller behind the pilot. The landing gear matches that and is arranged differently from a conventional fighter with the propeller at the front. The openings of the bays therefore do not sit where a modeler is used to, and guessing their shape from memory does not pay off. Die-cut masks remove that uncertainty: every shape has its place and the outline matches the opening on the model.
Paint the insides of the bays before the model is closed up and before you get to the top shades. Once they have dried, apply the masks, finish the whole painting including any gloss varnish under the decals, and take the masks off right at the end. Paint the landing gear legs and doors separately and glue them into a finished bay.
The Kyushu J7W1 Shinden was a Japanese interceptor of canard layout with a pusher propeller, developed at the end of the Second World War. It never reached series production and only a small number of machines were built.
