The narrowed rendition of the F-35A Lightning II exhaust nozzle replaces the tail end of the powerplant; a resin casting, 1:72 scale, Aires.
Responsibility details are not available.
A casting of the tail end of the powerplant with a narrowed opening, that is the counterpart of the variant with the petals open. The choice between the two renditions is purely a matter of composition: what decides is whether the model stands on a stand as a machine in flight or is set into an airfield scene.
A closed nozzle has at its end a fine ring of panels whose edges, in 1:72, are thinner than a tenth of a millimeter. Casting in resin copes with that; a split injection mold does not. The result is a tail end that looks like metal when seen from behind, not like two glued halves. The difference between the two renditions on offer is most easily checked against photographs of real machines on a stand and in flight.
The Lightning II came about as a common type for several branches of the armed forces, and its A version serves with land-based air forces. It carries sensors and data links that make it more a reconnaissance and control element than a classic fighter, and its pilot sees the surroundings through a helmet-mounted system and even through the structure of the aircraft.
This is a separate accessory; the kit of the aircraft and paints are not in the box.
