About product

The LVG C.VI in 1:72 from Kovozavody Prostejov

Kovozavody Prostejov is a Czech brand with a long tradition which in recent years has been releasing modern injection-molded kits in 1:72. The model of the two-seat LVG C.VI biplane belongs to their range of First World War aircraft, and this boxing is aimed at the markings of further users of the type, that is outside the original German service. For a collector it is a way of having the same machine on the shelf in a markedly different finish.

The real subject

The LVG C.VI was a German two-seat aircraft of the C category, that is an armed two-seater meant for reconnaissance and for directing artillery fire. It was built by the Luft-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft company and powered by an inline six-cylinder Benz engine. Against the earlier types of the same family the C.VI was smaller, lighter and aerodynamically cleaner, which gave it better performance and a better chance of escaping fighters. It entered service in the closing phase of the war and was built in large numbers. A number of machines therefore survived the war and in the first postwar years served with the newly forming air forces of central and eastern Europe.

Building and painting tips

On a biplane the setting of the lifting surfaces is the key. It pays to work on a flat surface, to check the dihedral as you go and to seat the interplane struts before the cement sets. The rigging wires are added at the very end. The doped fabric covering has a different surface character from the plywood fuselage, which is worth telling apart in the final rendering.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of First World War aircraft in 1:72
  • Modelers interested in the postwar service of German types
  • Builders of biplanes who want a less usual finish
  • Anyone interested in the output of Czech kit manufacturers

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
