An injection-molded plastic kit from the Japanese firm Aoshima in 1:24. The real subject is the Toyota Crown in the Royal Saloon trim of the 2015 model year, that is the generation carried under the type codes GRS210 and AWS210, the first designating the gasoline version and the second the hybrid. The kit takes that into account and lets the car be built in either designation; it also holds a masking film for the windows, chrome-plated parts of the front grille and the door handles, and decals including the markings of the hybrid version.
The Crown is one of the longest-running Japanese automobile names and at home in Japan it fills the role of a prestige upper-class sedan. The generation introduced in 2012 and updated in 2015 is marked by a strongly shaped front grille and rich equipment; the Royal Saloon version is among the comfort-oriented trims. It was in this generation that the hybrid drive arrived as a full alternative to the six-cylinder.
With a modern sedan it is the quality of the paint that decides, so the route through primer, thin layers from an airbrush, fine sanding and a final polish is right here. Use the masking film for the windows; it saves a great deal of time and the window frames come out sharp. Do not glue the chrome-plated parts through the plated layer with plastic cement; scrape it away at the joint. Decide in advance whether you are building the gasoline or the hybrid version, as it affects the choice of decals and the markings on the body.
