An injection-molded plastic kit of the American M4A3E2 tank in 1:72 scale from the Ukrainian maker UM. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The subject is a special assault version of the Sherman, recognizable at a glance by its massive cast turret and markedly thicker hull armor; among modelers it has become known by the nickname Jumbo.
The M4A3E2 came about in 1944 as an answer to the need for a tank able to lead an attack at the head of a formation and to withstand the fire of anti-tank guns. It was based on the standard Sherman in the M4A3 version, but received markedly reinforced frontal hull armor and a new, far thicker cast turret. The price was greater weight, lower speed and more strain on the running gear. Only a limited number of vehicles were built and they were assigned to units in North-West Europe, where they proved themselves precisely in breaking through German defensive positions. Some examples were rearmed in the field with a more powerful gun, because the original weapon was no longer enough against the best armored targets.
Work with nippers and a sharp scalpel and glue with thin cement for plastic so that it does not run over the detail. Assemble the running gear on a flat surface so that all the wheels sit down; on a Sherman its geometry is very visible. The cast turret and the hull front deserve the fine texture of a casting, which can be suggested with a stiff brush and a thin layer of filler or thicker paint. We recommend painting over a primer, an olive green base with an airbrush, then a dark wash in the engraved lines and a dry brush on the edges. Add mud and dust on the running gear with pigments.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
