Oil Radiators for the Macchi MC.202 in 1:72 Scale

The radiators are small but conspicuous: they have thin walls, a deep intake and a core inside that injection-molded plastic in a small scale usually only suggests. This set brings finished replacement parts that are cleaned up, painted and fitted in place of the kit parts. On a model in 1:72 scale it is one of the simplest ways to lift the impression of the whole aircraft.

The real subject

The Macchi MC.202 was an Italian single-seat fighter of the Second World War. It was created by reworking an earlier type for a liquid-cooled engine built under license and was considerably faster than its predecessors. It was exactly the liquid cooling and the engine lubrication that called for radiators led out into the airstream, so this is a feature that cannot be hidden on a model.

Building and painting tips

• the parts are not polystyrene and are bonded with super glue
• cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little away from the part and carefully sand the remainder
• wash and degrease the parts before painting, otherwise the paint holds poorly
• try the fit dry, as replacement parts often call for the seat in the fuselage to be reworked
• darken the inside of the radiator, which deepens the impression of an opening

The radiator set alone is supplied. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise. The number of parts and the assembly procedure are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
