New Ware 1:72 Mask A-1H and A-1J Skyraider BASIC

The basic mask set for the model of the single-engine attack airplane Skyraider in the A-1H and A-1J versions, 1:72 scale. The masks are pre-cut from a self-adhesive sheet and shaped to the parts of the Hasegawa kit. The BASIC step denotes the basic extent, aimed at the main glazed areas.

A long cockpit canopy

The Skyraider has a conspicuously long canopy with several panes, and in 1:72 scale the frames work out very narrow. Tape cut by hand is hard to keep in a straight line at such a small size, and the edge is then not straight. A pre-cut mask does away with that work; the edges stay crisp and the glass clean even without a repair by brush afterwards.

The real subject

The A-1 Skyraider is a single-seat propeller-driven attack airplane with a radial engine, designed for operation from a deck as well as from land bases. It is marked by a large number of racks under the wing and the fuselage and by long endurance in the air. The A-1H and A-1J versions are among the later production forms of the type.

Spraying tips

• Wash the clear parts in lukewarm water with detergent before masking.
• Take the masks off the sheet with tweezers and do not touch the adhesive side with your fingers.
• Mask the long canopy gradually from one end, so that no bubble forms.
• Lay the paint on in thin coats, as a heavy coat leaves a step at the edge.
• Take the masks off shortly after the paint has dried, not after the finish has cured.
