New Ware 1:72 masking set — B-52 B/D Stratofortress, BASIC version

Self-adhesive, machine-cut masks for a model of the eight-engine Boeing B-52 bomber in the B and D versions in 1:72 scale. The BASIC version is the entry grade of the line: it covers the basic range of masking, that is what every builder needs who wants clean glazing and sharp paint edges. It is not a kit and not parts of a model.

What the entry grade solves

A B-52 model in 1:72 scale is a large piece of plastic, but the glazing itself is small and segmented against the size of the airframe. That is exactly where masking by hand pays off least: cutting a strip of tape barely as wide as a frame and keeping it straight costs a great deal of time and patience. A pre-cut mask reduces this part of the work to a few minutes and the paint edge comes out equally sharp along its whole length.

Tips for spraying over a mask

• Before the color, run a thin coat of the shade underneath along the edge of the mask; any creep is then invisible and the main color goes onto a sealed edge.
• Keep the airbrush pressure lower and the paint thinned; heavy paint forms a ridge under the edge of the mask that stays behind when it is lifted.
• Mask the large areas of the wings and the fuselage separately with tape; the set is intended for the parts with complicated shapes.
• With silver and metallic shades let the paint dry longer, or it will easily take an impression when the mask is lifted.
