1:72 Masks Convair B-36, RB-36F, RB-36H BASIC is a New Ware masking set for a model of the giant American strategic bomber in 1:72 scale. It is not a kit but an accessory that copes with the extensive glazing of this subject.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks for a model of the B-36 bomber and of its RB-36F and RB-36H reconnaissance versions in 1:72 scale. At New Ware the BASIC level is the most basic variant of the range, aimed at the main glazing; the wider ADVANCED and EXPERT levels mask beyond that. The templates are cut to the shape of the Revell kit, so nothing has to be measured or trimmed.
The B-36 was an American intercontinental strategic bomber of the early Cold War and one of the largest combat aircraft ever to fly. It was powered by six piston engines arranged in the wing as pushers, supplemented on the later versions by four jet engines in pods under the wing. In crew slang the combination was summed up as six turning and four burning. The RB-36F and RB-36H versions were reconnaissance machines, with a reworked forward fuselage for photographic equipment and a specialized crew.
In 1:72 scale the B-36 is a giant: the span is over ninety centimeters and the glazed areas are correspondingly numerous, from the cockpit through the nose to the observation and gun positions. It is exactly on a model like this that the difference between a pre-cut set and tape by hand shows up most: what would take several evenings by hand is one evening's work with the set. Work systematically and mask section by section, not jumping from the nose to the tail. Press each mask down all around its edge, otherwise paint gets under it and putting it right on a part this large gets tiresome. Spray thin coats straight down from above; the natural metal finish typical of this subject will moreover show up every unevenness, so it pays to have a smooth base and to lift the masks off in good time.
The package contains only the masking templates. The kit, the paints and the glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
