The jubilee coloring of the example with the code 13-QG, with which the squadron EC 1/13 Artois celebrated twenty-five years of operating the Mirage IIIE type in 1990. 1:72 scale.

The fighter squadron EC 1/13 Artois switched to the Mirage IIIE in the mid-1960s, and in 1990 it recalled twenty-five years of shared service with a conspicuously painted aircraft carrying the fuselage code 13-QG. The festive motif was completed by the badges of the squadron and a row of small lettering, which the sheet transfers faithfully.
The key is easy: one meter of reality shrinks to not quite fourteen millimeters. The fuselage thus drops from fifteen meters to not quite twenty-one centimeters and the pointed wing takes up eleven and a half centimeters. The model can be held in one hand, which anyone building for a windowsill or a narrow display case will appreciate. The price of that compactness, though, is smallness: markings a few millimeters in size call for tweezers with fine jaws and a steady hand.
The set belongs solely on the E version, recognizable by the longer nose and the more angular radar cover. Kits in this scale come for the most part from older molds, so it pays to check the flatness of the joins in advance and, if need be, to sand down the fin and the spine, over which part of the decoration passes. A gloss base is a necessity; a matte surface holds air under the carrier film and silvers.
French anniversary finishes stand and fall with the precise fitting of the individual pieces of artwork. It pays, therefore, to lay them from the back forward and to check the symmetry from the axis of the fuselage as you go. Anyone who shines a spot lamp from the side will spot even slight bubbles in time, while they can still be pressed out with a cotton swab.
