A masking set in 1:72 scale for the control surfaces of a model of the Japanese carrier-based fighter Mitsubishi A6M2b Model 21 Reisen.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Mitsubishi A6M2b Model 21, Reisen in Japanese and known among the Allies as the Zero, is a carrier-based fighter of the Imperial Japanese Navy from the beginning of the war in the Pacific. It stood out for its handling and its great range, which the designers paid for with the light construction of the airframe. Its rudder, elevators and ailerons were covered with fabric, so on a finished machine they differed from the metal skin in texture and in sheen alike.
These are masking pieces for the control surfaces of a model in 1:72 scale. The pieces define the boundary between a moving surface and the skin around it, so that the rudder, the elevator or an aileron can be set apart in shade or in sheen without laboriously outlining it with a brush. How many pieces the set carries and where each one belongs are stated in the manufacturer's instructions enclosed with it.
Stick the masks on before spraying, onto a dry and degreased surface, and press the edges down with a toothpick so that no paint runs underneath them. Spray several thin layers; a heavy layer will lean against the edge of the mask and break off when it is removed. Take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried, with a pull back across the surface at a sharp angle. If you are setting the surfaces apart by sheen alone, go over them through the mask with a matte or satin varnish.
A masking set is supplied. The model, the paints, the varnishes and thinner are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
