An injection-molded plastic kit of the French Morane-Saulnier MS.406 fighter in the 1939-40 release, in 1:72 scale from the Polish maker Hobby 2000. The edition combines quality plastic parts from the proven Hasegawa molds with Cartograf decals for several marking options and with masks for the glazing. The model is supplied as a plastic casting; glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package.
The Morane-Saulnier MS.406 was the main fighter of the French Air Force at the beginning of the Second World War. Although it was underarmed and slower than the newer German machines, it played a key part in the fighting of 1940, particularly in the Battle of France. Thousands of examples were built; besides France it also flew with other users, among them Switzerland and Finland. Despite its limits the MS.406 is among the typical representatives of French fighter design at the turn of the 1930s and 1940s.
Plastic from the Hasegawa molds builds pleasantly and accurately. Paint and fit the cockpit before closing up the fuselage; the enclosed masks make it easier to spray the glazing frames cleanly. Use thin cement on the plastic, prime the surfaces and spray with an airbrush. Period French camouflage has soft transitions, so an airbrush at lower pressure suits it. Apply the quality Cartograf decals onto a glossy base and pull the joints down with decal softener; a final flat coat will even the surface out.
