According to the name the set brings castings of the wheels in the late version and paint masks that make it easier to separate the color of the tire from the color of the hub. A resin casting holds sharper sidewall detail and a more legible tread pattern than parts from injection-molded plastic usually do. Aires is a Czech brand focused precisely on resin accessories for aircraft models.
Wheels are among the parts that everyone looks at on a finished model – they are low down at the viewer's eye level, they have a pronounced shape and they decide whether the model stands convincingly on its base. A replacement resin wheel solves two things at once: finer surface detail and accuracy of shape. The masks then do away with the most irritating part of the work, namely hand-drawing the boundary between the dark tire and the lighter hub. The exact number of parts and the rest of the package contents are stated on the packaging of the set.
First wash the castings in lukewarm water with detergent, so that the mold release agent residue disappears; without that the paint does not hold and later peels off. Cut the casting block off with a fine saw or a cutting disc, never break it off. Sand wet and with respiratory protection; resin dust does not belong in the lungs. It is bonded with cyanoacrylate glue, that is super glue – ordinary modeling cement for plastic does not work on resin. Apply a thin coat of primer before painting. Press the mask down along the whole length of the edge, so that the paint does not creep under, and spray several light coats instead of one heavy one.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
