This is not a model of an aircraft but a small accessory. The set offers a replacement clear canopy for the P-47D Thunderbolt fighter in razorback form in 1:72 scale. The canopy is drawn from thin transparent film, and is therefore noticeably more slender than the injection-molded part from an ordinary kit. Thanks to the thin material the cockpit can be built open without trouble and the interior stays clean to the eye. The set is cut for a particular kit, whose maker is given in the name.
The P-47 Thunderbolt was among the heaviest single-engined fighters of the Second World War. The early versions had the fuselage spine carried up behind the cockpit, which gave rise to the nickname razorback, unlike the later machines with a bubble canopy and a lowered spine. On the razorback in particular, the shape of the canopy with its sliding section and fixed glazing is a characteristic identifying feature and is worth attention during the build.
The best way to separate the film from its carrier sheet is to go over the outline several times with a fresh sharp blade and then break the rest away carefully. Level the edge afterward by drawing it over fine abrasive paper laid on a flat board. Work in one direction and keep testing the fit on the fuselage. Glue it with a cement intended for clear parts or with white glue, which dries clear: super glue would fog the film. The frames are easiest to paint through a self-adhesive mask cut from tape. It is worth getting two pieces if you want a spare for a first attempt.
