An injection-molded plastic kit of the American PT-160 fast torpedo boat in 1:72 scale from Revell. The real subject is an ELCO type boat about eighty feet long. The model has a multi-part hull for strength, deckhouses, deck armament and a stand for display. The armament includes 20 mm guns, 12.7 mm heavy machine guns and torpedoes.
PT (Patrol Torpedo) boats were small, fast and lightly built craft of the US Navy. Thanks to their high speed and their torpedo and gun armament they made daring night attacks on enemy vessels, mainly in the Pacific. Their wooden hulls and powerful engines made them feared opponents in coastal waters.
Thin cement for plastic works well, as does careful alignment of the hull parts. The deck and the armament are best painted separately before final assembly. A primer and an airbrush help, and on the wooden deck washes bring the texture out. For a more faithful look, photo-etched railings from the aftermarket can be added. The model can be displayed on the stand supplied.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
