A photo-etched set aimed at the bomb bay of a model of the flying boat Martin PBM-5A Mariner in 1:72 scale. It is not a kit of the aircraft but an accessory for a modeler who wants an open bomb bay convincingly filled out. Metal etching makes thin-walled bulkheads, stiffeners and mountings possible, the kind that cannot be produced in injection-molded plastic in this scale. The manufacturer is the Czech company Eduard. The code designation of the line corresponds to a full photo-etched set, not to the smaller Zoom line.
The Mariner was a twin-engined patrol flying boat of the US Navy with a characteristic gull wing and twin vertical tails. It carried its bombs and depth charges in spaces inside the engine nacelles, which is an unusual solution on a flying boat and on a model it is a striking, well visible detail. The PBM-5A version was amphibious, with retractable wheeled landing gear, and it served in the postwar years as well.
Set the bomb bay up dry beforehand and try how the parts fit together: once they are glued, corrections are hard. Separate the etching with a scalpel on a hard surface and make the bends over a straight edge. Degrease the metal and lay primer under it, and only then paint. It is good to shade the inside of the space with a darker tone before closing the model up, because you will not reach it later.
