Decals with technical stencils for a model of the Lockheed Neptune patrol aircraft in 1:72 scale. Stencils are the small inscriptions and marks which on a real aircraft point out filler necks, access panels, hold-down points, hazardous areas and similar operating data. On a model it is precisely these that give a smooth finish scale and life. It is not a kit of an aircraft and not a decal set with the national insignia and codes of a particular unit, but an accessory to the basic markings; the extent of the sheet is stated on the box.
The Neptune was a land-based patrol and anti-submarine aircraft that served from the second half of the 1940s and with a number of operators stayed in service for decades. It is a large twin-engine machine flying long patrols over the sea, so its surface carried extensive operating markings, from stencils by the filler necks to warnings around the propeller arcs. The extent and the form of the stencils differed by version and by operator, so before applying them it is worth comparing the sheet with photographs of the real machine.
Decals are applied onto a smooth gloss surface, otherwise a silvery milkiness will appear under the film. So spray the model with a gloss coat first and let it dry thoroughly. Cut the decal out close to the design, dip it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and leave it on the paper until it starts to slide freely. Help it in place with a softener, so that it draws down onto the rivets and panel lines. Once dry, spray the model with a matte or semi-matte coat, which will hide the edges of the film. Small stencils crease easily, so use a damp brush on them rather than tweezers.
The sheet is an accessory for a plastic kit. The base model, paints and clear coats are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
