An injection-molded plastic kit from the Chinese maker S-model in 1:72 scale. The designation 1+1 in the name means that one box holds two identical complete models, which is typical of this line and suits both a pair of display machines and a diorama. The models are conceived as quick to build, with a low number of parts and without the need for complicated modifications. The real subject is the German captured designation Pz.Kpfw. 35-S 739(f), under which the Wehrmacht operated captured French SOMUA S35 tanks.
The SOMUA S35 was a French cavalry tank of the second half of the 1930s and at the time it appeared it was among the best armored machines of its category. Characteristic features are the cast construction of the hull and the turret, the single-man APX turret with a 47 mm gun and a coaxial machine gun, and a gasoline engine. The weak point was precisely the single-man turret, in which the commander aimed, loaded and commanded at the same time. After the defeat of France in 1940 Germany took over a large number of these vehicles and used them under the captured designation 35-S 739(f) above all for occupation, security and training duties, on some of the machines with revised equipment and German recognition markings.
With vehicles in a small scale it pays to assemble and paint the running gear before the hull is closed, because a brush has trouble reaching between the wheels and the suspension later. The cast surface of the hull and the turret shows beautifully when you lay a thin dark wash over the base shade and then bring out the edges with a dry brush. Given that the machine was used in various periods and services, think through the color scheme before you start spraying. For the final patina, dust and mud pigments on the running gear and the lower part of the hull are suitable.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
